Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens
Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens is an internationally regarded museum of contemporary and modern art. The Museum is part of the Stichting Mevrouw Jules Dhondt-Dhaenens, a private Flemish foundation established in Deurle in 1967 by Jules and Irma Dhondt-Dhaenens. The Foundation upholds the Dhondt-Dhaenens’ vision to make their art collection, as well as culture more broadly, accessible to diverse audiences in Flanders, Belgium and internationally. Alongside Museum Dhondt- Dhaenens, the Stichting encompasses two associated sites, the Wunderkammer and Woning Van Wassenhove.
Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens announces two new funded residencies at the Woning
Van Wassenhove, a landmark modernist building designed by the Flemish architect Juliaan Lampens in Sint-Martens-Latem, near Ghent, Belgium.
The two residencies will each allow one Europe-based candidate of any nationality to stay in the Woning Van Wassenhove for up to 4 consecutive weeks between S September and December 2021. Since the Woning is a single person heritage house, the emphasis is primarily on reflection and research, although production that respects the integrity of the house is possible. How applicants choose to take advantage of their stay in the Woning Van Wassenhove is open, so long as the occupation of the house, its locality and architectural identity, are put to productive
use.
FABA Artist Residency
Aimed at practicing artists in any creative field. Applicants should have taken part in at least 1 solo and 1 group exhibition in public institutions by the time of applying. The FABA Artist Residency jury is composed of Catherine de Zegher (curator and writer), Caroline Dumalin (director, AAIR Antwerp), Gwenvael Launay (FABA Foundation), Laurens Otto (curator, MDD) and Danielle van Zuijlen (artistic coordinator, Kunsthal Gent).
Art & Architecture Residency
Aimed at practitioners in any creative discipline whose work is situated at the intersection of art and architecture. Applicants should be able to demonstrate in their practice a multi-year commitment to exploring the interface between art and architecture. The Art & Architecture Residency jury is composed of Sofie De Caigny (director, Flanders Architecture Institute, Antwerp), Thomas Lerooy (artist), Laurens Otto (curator, MDD), Jo Van Den Berghe (architect and professor, KU Leuven), Adinda Van Geystelen (artistic director, Z33, Hasselt) and Meruro Washida (director, Towada Art Center).
The resident is expected to organize a public-facing output at the Woning Van Wassenhove or Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens, either at the end of their stay or later, showcasing aspects of their practice in relation to the residency.
Studio space and materials are not provided, and as a protected heritage property the Woning Van Wassenhove is not conducive to activities that may cause residential disturbance, damage or leave traces.Since the Woning is a single person heritage house, the emphasis is primarily on reflection and research, although production that respects the integrity of the house is possible.
Woning Van Wassenhove is a single person heritage house with one bedroom, kitchen, desk, bathroom and small garden with terrace. All living areas overlap, with no separate rooms, into one open space.
