Need for residences in Eindhoven: Long Term Short Stay

Eindhoven based art organizations start a multidisciplinary residency program to draw attention to the need for temporary housing of international artists.

For art institutions, offering residencies is an increasingly important part of their program. Being associated with an institution for a longer period of time is of great value to both the resident and the institution because of deepening of their mutual practice.

Already for some years there is an urgent need for housing in the city of Eindhoven. Art spaces that offer residences in their program, have to make use of solutions such as hotels or B&B, which weighs heavily on their budgets. For this reason, Eindhoven based art organizations Make Eindhoven, De Fabriek, United Cowboys and Baltan Laboratories launced the multidisciplinary residency program Long Term Short Stay to draw attention to the need for temporary housing of international artists and strive for an appropriate structural solution.

The program focuses on art in a social context. For its 1st edition, Oscar van der Put, Bo Stokkermans, Sadaf Malyar and Marta Beauchamp were asked to reflect on how they (in their practice, and as artists) relate to social developments. Results of these researches can be seen in Eindhoven at De Fabriek and Arthouse United Cowboys from December 15, 2023.
