RARA Artist Residence and Asociación Cultural Nueva Rara Avis is a self-financing cultural project by subscription, through membership fees. The income generated will be used to achieve our goals as stated above, of promoting social awareness and respect for nature and the environment, as well as highlighting the importance of respecting human rights, especially those of women, through art.

RARA Art Residency is an initiative led by the private non-profit organization Nueva Rara Avis Cultural Association. Our organization aims to connect and involve artists from anywhere and of any discipline in the local art network in a natural, rural environment.

The RARA team keeps in periodic touch with its residents, providing suggestions, tips and specific curatorial support for each project. The intention is that the work environment in the residence will be a fusion of artistic and cultural experience, through contact with local and regional institutions in the cultural and educational sector, art studios, musicians and curators, artists in residence will have the opportunity to generate new contacts, both for their present and future professional life.

Outcome

The main aim of the residence is to promote artistic research, the artistic production and exhibition of our residents artworks. But it is more than that:

  • It is an opportunity to meet other international and local creators of art and interchange culture and ideas.
  • It is an opportunity to develop specific artistic or educational projects, that would contribute to the energizing of the village and the promotion of intercultural relations.
  • It is an opportunity to reconnect with nature immersed in the Mediterranean landscape.
     
Studio Information

In the residence, they have specific exhibition spaces in which artists’ work can be exhibited. They also have the town Exhibition Hall, which is located near the museum dedicated to the artist José Hernández. They can accommodate one or two artists, in spacious individual workshops.

Accommodation Information

The residence has wi-fi, dedicated work areas, a fully equipped eat-in kitchen, a living room, two bathrooms, two balconies and an indoor patio.

Location

RARA is located in Villanueva del Rosario, a village 30 minutes distance from Malaga city. Málaga has acquired the status of being the city with the most important cultural, exhibition and museum agenda in the autonomous community of Andalusia.

The village is located in a favoured natural environment, surrounded by high mountain landscapes and small native forests. At the residence, we promote social awareness and respect for nature and the environment, as well as highlight the importance of respecting human rights, especially those of women, through art, as the best form of reflection.
