Prairieside Outpost
Prairieside Outpost Artist Residency program offers a unique artist residency experience–it is comfortable, private, peaceful, family-friendly and nature-oriented. While close to urban areas, it is truly an out-of-the-way place in one of the most unique geographical landscapes in the United States.
Prairieside Outpost provides a artist residency retreat to visual artists and writers. It is situated in the small rural community of Matfield Green, Kansas, USA. The location is surrounded by the beautiful and geographically unique Flint Hills region, about 17 miles south of the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve.
Each artist provides a written report that documents their experience in the residency program, which is published on our website.
The studio space is a one-room space that is near the main cottage. It is furnished with tables, chairs and lighting. Guests can also access the adjacent 7 acres of land.
The entire cottage is provided along with a separate studio which is a small building.
The cottage has an extensive library.
A rural community setting, population about 50 people. The community is very arts-friendly and has other arts organizations, including a gallery and programming space. The area is known for its remoteness and sweeping prairie landscapes.
