Description

Created by the Korean artist Lee Ufan, who has been attached to Arles since a 2013 exhibition in the Saint-Laurent-Le Capitole chapel, this exhibition center is both a museum showcasing the artist's historic and recent work, and a place to live and support artistic and cultural activities.

In 2023, Lee Ufan Arles and Maison Guerlain have joined forces to create the Art & Environment Prize, awarded each year to a work of universal scope whose philosophical depth echoes that of Lee Ufan. The link with the environment resonates with the values upheld by the Maison Guerlain. Sharing the same sensitivity to artistic support and transmission, as well as the same commitment to art and the environment, Lee Ufan Arles and Maison Guerlain encourage artistic productions that are resolutely altruistic and responsible, opening up new dialogues with nature.

With the Prix Art & Environnement 2024, Lee Ufan Arles and Guerlain wish to develop a creative space enabling conceptual, semantic and aesthetic bridges between the work of young creators and that of Lee Ufan. The Prize is therefore sensitive to strong projects proposing a new vision of our relationship with modernity, as well as to works with long temporalities and a relationship with nature, the environment and materials. Upon winning the prize, the winner will benefit from a six- to eight-week support program at the beginning of 2025, with a production space and accommodation in the heart of Arles.

This "time-space" enables them to carry out their artistic project, but also to meet the people and institutions relevant to its implementation: artists, professionals from the art world and local players, as well as the general public. A member of the Lee Ufan Arles team is assigned to support the laureate in his or her artistic project, through meetings with international and local artists, curators and other players. The Residency is followed by an exhibition presenting the artist's work, during the summer period, in one of Lee Ufan Arles' spaces.

The Prix Art & Environnement is open to all artists, regardless of artistic practice, with no age or degree limit, and to international artists.
