Le Wonder
Le Wonder is an artist-run-space, a place run by and for artists. Since 2013, the eponymous collective has occupied large disused complexes in the Parisian suburbs and has shaped the places it occupies in its own image: collective and individual studios, a pool of shared machines and tools, a space for experimentation and emergence for artistic thought. Le Wonder aims to be an independent production and distribution tool, available to the young French and international artistic scene. Plurality is at the heart of Le Wonder project.
Nowadays, it welcomes 70 permanent artists and offers 4 research and creation residencies for three artists and a curator. On site, practices and research intersect and are exchanged. Thanks to those meetings, porosity and creations are influenced, evolve and are enriched. They sometimes give rise to unexpected collaborations. This collective and cooperative experience outlines new forms of co-creation and sharing.
The artist/the curator must respect the rules of regulation as well as the values of the artist-run-space.
Le Wonder will provide the laureate:
- access to all of the studios and equipment
- peer-support from a referent, artist from the collective Le Wonder
- access to the local network and the artistic scene according to desires and projects
The association provides permanent and guest residents artists with a pool of shared tools and machines, as well as work spaces divided into several activity sections: Wood department; Textile department; Image department; Research department; Exhibition space; Outdoor spaces; Photo studio; Cinema department; Associative cuisine; Metal department and Ceramic department.
Le Wonder research and creation residency program is supported by the Île-de-France Regional Direction of Cultural Affairs and the Department of Seine-Saint-Denis as part of Sodavi. Le Wonder is a member of the Arts in Residence network.
The research and creation residency offered by Le Wonder is not focused on the production of a specific project. Research and experimentation practices are encouraged, whether theoretical, material or formal.
It is possible and encouraged to share a time to present the work at the start of the residency period.
Each laureate can propose a restitution of their residency, whether in the form of an open studio, a conference, a workshop, a screening, a banquet.
They offer two office/studio spaces to be shared in a 50 m2 area located next to the 35 m2 printing machine area. A third vacant office will be used to accommodate international resident artists at Wonder and visiting publishers/illustrators/graphic designers who are eager to experiment, produce, or collaborate within the printing workshop.
Accommodation is provided free of charge by Le Wonder during the residency period:
- an individual bedroom (partner or family welcome on request)
- access to commons (kitchen, bathroom)
