The Foundry
The Foundry is a non-profit residency with three aims: 1. to offer a space for people to work on their projects; 2. to host events organized by members; 3. to increase self-sufficiency and sustainability.
The Foundry is not a hotel or tourist destination, but a space of work outside of the institutional confines of market and government funding. They offer open residency programs throughout the year.
Different spaces, for music, visual arts, work with metal, clay and other materials.
They currently have six bathrooms, 12 bedrooms (mostly doubles) with electricity and WiFi, a professional kitchen, several large rooms, and a huge field where people can pitch a tent. The Foundry is located in a valley surrounded by a river and a forest. For the regular groceries they go to Viveiro, a seaside town at 10 kilometers distance. There is a car and a bike, anyone is free to use them. Pets are allowed outside as long as they behave; if they cannot stay outside, please ask them in advance what are the possibilities.
They generally organize food together, but you don’t have to join this system (which involves sharing bills and cooking once in a while) if you don’t want to. The organisers want to keep the Foundry as cheap as possible, so they have no staff; guests are expected to take care of the space together. To coordinate this, there are usually assemblies every few weeks.
