Description
Dar Meso is an artist residency based in a picturesque corner of nature In the heart of the medina of Tunis, a calm and exotic place that will foster innovation and cultural exchange. The residency is located in Bab Souika, a popular and lively district of the Medina of Tunis. The house, built in the 1900s, was for a long time occupied by various religious associations that lived there independently thanks to its garden and its fruit trees. Dar Meso offers artists a private workspace, co-working spaces equipped with the necessary tools for their creation, housing and catering.
The artist comes to work on a specific artistic project and is autonomous. The idea is that they come to Dar Meso to find peace, tranquility and a change in scenery to boost their work and foster his innovation.
The organisers also offer to artists the possibility to get in touch with the artisans and craftsmiths of the neighborhood (blacksmiths, cabinetmakers, seamstress …) to promote local crafts and open up new horizons in the artists’ work and creation.
Studio Information
The residence comprises:
- 2 kitchens: one in the ground floor with direct access to the garden and one on the first level, closer and easier to access to residents.
- 2 bathrooms and 1 water closet
- 6 rooms with different atmospheres and decorations: Berber style, vegetal decoration, Tunisian style and also 30’s …
- A chapel revamped into a workshop, might be transformed in rehearsal studio, gallery…
- An office/workshop in the first level
- Three shared spaces : oriental living room in the first level, Tunisian living room in the gound level and a reading space
- Dar Meso offers as well many work spaces or outdoor exhibition possibilities such as the large garden, terrace and flat roof overlooking the entire medina.
Accommodation Information
Each artist has their own room with storage and a work space. The residency functions as a community and they regularly share meals together. Everything in the 2 kitchens is available for self-service for residents.
