Researching into the future

Researching into the future

Who do we want to become, how can we live, what can we learn in regards to push forward to a more sustainable future?
This is what triggered researcher Yasmine Ostendorf to engage into a practice based research at a dynamic-organic farm in Brazil about the mycelium. The mycelium is the hyphae that mushrooms, trees and plants use underground to probe, communicate, transport - every word has an immediate human connotation and does not exactly cover what happens underground there. Food for thought so to speak, for how can we translate this to the structures we live and work with today?

Yasmine Ostendorf is the founder and coordinator of the Green Art Lab Alliance (GALA), a network of art organisations contributing to sustainability through their creative practice. She was also head of the Nature Research Lab on Food & Art at Jan van Eijck Academy in Maastricht, where she set up the Future Materials Bank, a digital data base working towards a more sustainable art practice. Her current research The Methodology of the Mycelium will be published in 2022. Until that moment, please find here irregular updates of the fungus-watcher.
