Foundation Obras Art residencies
OBRAS-Holland offers artists an inspiring residency in a spacious, free-standing mansion surrounded by a garden. The place is suited for one artist or a couple. Residents live and work largely on their own.
It is located at the edge of a pleasant village surrounded by nature, with good connections to bigger cities. Several museums and other cultural highlights are in the direct surroundings (doable with an easy bike ride). May-September are the best months for working outside, biking and hiking.
The residence is suited for a variety of art disciplines, including writing, photography, video, music and (with some limitations) visual art.
The local hostess gives support when needed and can organize contact with local artists. But first of all it is largely a help-yourself place.
Some possibilities exist for organizing artist talks and other small scale events.
The working studio is 5 x 9m (3.60m high) and can be divided into two halves. One half can be used as office with a desk and office chair. The other half can be used, according to your wishes, either as a living room or a workshop. A wooden working table of 1.20 x 1,90 cm on trestles, two spotlights and some basic equipment are available. For musicians, composers and sound artists there are an electronic piano and a modest sound mix table.
The resident will be accommodated in a mansion, surrounded by a garden. He/she can use the ground floor and part of the first floor. Available are (apart from the studio) an enclosed veranda, a spacious kitchen, a sleeping room (3,5 x 3,5 m) with two beds, a bathroom and toilet. Sheets, towels, blankets and laundry machine are available. The kitchen has an oven, microwave, induction cooking plate, dish washer, laundry machine and so on. There is an extra bedroom in case there are two artists working on the same project. The house has Wi-Fi and cable TV. Food stores and restaurants are within 10 minutes walking.
Obras-Holland is located at the edge of a green village named Renkum. Within 10 minutes walking distance you will find shops, supermarkets, restaurants, library and so on. Renkum has 7000 inhabitants and is surrounded by a large forested area and the river Rhine with extensive forelands. Renkum has direct connections by bus to Wageningen (35.000 inhabitants; a lively university town, 5 km), Ede (100.000 inhabitants, 12 km) and Arnhem (200.000 inhabitants, 18 km). Bicycles are available for shopping and site seeing.
