Manifesta Art and Culture
LABVERDE was created to strengthen the limits of art through a broad array of experiences, knowledge sets and cultural perspectives involving art, science, traditional knowledge and nature. The program main goal is to promote artistic creation through a constructive debate about environmental issues generated by both theory and life experiences in the Amazon rainforest.
The program was developed in association with Manifesta Art and Culture and the National Institute for Amazonian Research. Designed by a multidisciplinary team of highly qualified specialists in arts, humanities, biology, ecology and natural science, LABVERDE aims to allow a deep understanding of the Amazon region and to promote collaborative and innovative art language.
Exploring the Amazon rainforest, discovering the richness of its biodiversity and understanding its importance for the planet's ecological balance will foster an analytical and critical perspective of issues such as landscape interpretation, nature representation, and the role of art in engaging social-ecological behavior.
10 days sharing knowledge and practices in an intensive schedule of seminars, workshops, presentations, forest guided tours and boat trips will enhance participants’ creativity, having nature as a common ground. The program main goal is to allow the comprehension of one of the main natural areas of the planet in order to stimulate poetic and aesthetic experience and discourses.
2022/2023 they offer three different research trips:
LABSonora: Focus on sound experimentation, field recording, soundscape and music.
Speculative Ecologies: Focus on speculative thinking about possible solutions for the future of the Amazon and it inhabitants.
Fungi Cosmology: Transdisciplinary research to disseminate the importance of the fungi kingdom.
Participate in an intensive schedule of expeditions, seminars, workshops, and meetings, also participate in LABVERDE 3rd edition catalogue.
