Halka art project cannot give any financial assistance for the time being to its residents. However, Halka gives primary importance to the usage of all other assets (human, intellectual, technical and spatial) in favour of the artist projects conducted in the residency. They vary from personal assistance to artists,curating, production facilities and promotional activities to allocating Halka art/ gallery as an exhibition space.

Paid by artist:

The residency costs 375 € weekly for individual artists and 550€ weekly for duos.

Application guidelines:

There is no application fee. The applicants should submit a project idea to be developped during the residency and complete the official form on their website.

Halka art project is a self-sustaining art organisation based in Istanbul which focuses on the production, discourse and presentation of contemporary art and culture since 2011. It initiates, curates and develops art projects at home and abroad. Halka art project runs curated individual or group exhibitions, artist talks, screenings and workshops on art, ecology, culinary arts and self-sustaining community issues, as well as an international residency programme. In its first 6 years the residency programme has hosted more than 60 artists from around 35 countries.

Halka art project residency is located in the Asian Side of Istanbul, in Moda district of Kadıköy. The residency period depends upon request, project and possibilities from 3 weeks to 3 months.The aim of the residency programme is to provide a centre of concentration, collaboration and/or isolation for the artists and theoricians from various disciplines in order to create and develop their artistic projects. The programme supports their guest artists in finding connections from local and international circles, sharing ideas, exchanging experiences. It also aims to form a basis for local and international collaborations.

Halka art/ residency is not an artist hotel. Based on application, project ideas which are open for improvement are carefully invited to join the programme. Halka art project works with the artists in the execution of their project in every step such as the curatorial support, artist assistance, presentation, and networking.

Outcome

The residency programme targets to be more than an import or export of culture, and is willing to operate as a facilitator and a project partner in the artistic realm. It is widely open to collaborations, development of projects in the curatorial sense of its residents. Halka art project organizes exhibitions, open talks, workshops studio activities and presentations with its guest artists and theoricians.

Studio Information

3 studio spaces in a 3 floor residency building - they are open for the participation of visual artists, curators and writers.

Accommodation Information

Halka art project residency programme offers private rooms with working units within, aside from the co-shared studio spaces, a co-shared kitchen, bathrooms, a recreational garden and a gallery space for meetings, exhibitions and artist talks.

Technical Information

Halka art/ residency has a wireless internet connection, a printer and a beamer for presentations.

Location

Both Halka art/residency and Halka art/gallery are located in Moda, Kadıköy on the Asian Side of İstanbul. Moda is a modern, vibrant, upcoming and boho chic location with alots of cafés, book stores, artist studios, night life and cultural destinaitons.
