Description

Green & Away is a tented sustainable non-profit events venue based in Worcestershire, available to hire for conferences, courses, celebrations and eco-camping. Established in 1990, they are also an educational charity and aim to inspire and encourage environmental and social change through experiential learning and sustainable living in practice.

This placement provides an opportunity for an emerging artist to develop and demonstrate their art at a leading environmental venue. The successful candidate will have a lot of independence over the course of their residency, and the organisation is open to your ideas for what you want to create on the site. You will, however, be encouraged to contribute an interesting piece of environmental, ecological, or land art, working with natural or recycled materials, which will be either permanent or present for the duration of the season and which will add to the atmosphere of the site. The ability and willingness to explain and educate volunteers and visitors to the site about your work and to collaborate on other creative projects is also desirable.

Outcome

Green & Away is open to suggestions of what the successful candidate wishes to create, and past participants have produced varied projects. The ability to communicate to the other volunteers and visitors about your art is desirable, but a formal talk or presentation is not compulsory.

Studio Information

A space to work will be constructed during the early weeks of the summer season. If you have specific requests as to the nature of your ‘studio’, they may be able to arrange this. Please note, however, that no specialist equipment (a kiln, electric tools, or digital equipment, for example) will be available.

Accommodation Information

Green & Away takes place outdoors and under canvas. You will need your own tent, however the organizers may be able to arrange one for you if you are unable to bring one.

Technical Information

The site consists of a 200-acre farm which includes a river, native woodland, pasture, a former railway line and a wide range of specialist shrubs grown for the plant nursery there. A licensed bar and comfortable sitting areas come as and when they have built them. There is WiFi and phone/laptop charging facilities. Please note, when you first arrive the field will not be fully constructed, so please be prepared for this.

Location

Green & Away takes place outdoors and under canvas. It is a temporary community which is constructed at the beginning of every season and is then taken down again at the end. Although G&A is set up on the outskirts of a small village near Worcester, the nearest shop and post office is 2 miles away.
