CURTIDAS pays for the production of the final event/exhibition, publication material & communication.

Paid by artist:

The residence fee is 380€ per week. This includes the exclusive use of the space and tools (projector, printer, bicycle, etc.), curatorial assistance, and final cleaning service. The artist foresees for personal expenses and donates one piece of work to Curtidas (the others can be sold, traded, or auctioned during the closing event).

Application guidelines:

They offer 2 to 3 residencies per year and are open to receiving proposals all year long. The artist needs to send a presentation letter (field of research, motivations, past experience), a proposed idea, and methodology, to be explored and developed during the residency, proposal of dates for the residency period.

CURTIDAS RESIDENCY
Description

CURTIDAS is a small storefront in the heart of Raval, in the old town of Barcelona. The two windows to the street are exhibitory spaces from where to bridge the artistic processes with the urban, social reality. They foster creative research initiatives dealing with nature, transdisciplinarity, social interaction, and technology. They curate artists with a clear ecological engagement and who can transform ideas into shared physical experiences.

Outcome
  • A final public event: either an exhibition, action, workshop, or performance
  • Participants use the two storefront windows to showcase their creative progress and must document it.
  • A yearly publication
Studio Information

CURTIDAS is one space to live and work. It has a kitchen and a small bathroom. It is meant for artists that do not need too much space to develop their work: writers, programmers, researchers, sound artists, photographers, filmmakers, etc. It is located in a very centric and lively neighborhood in the heart of the old town of Barcelona.

Accommodation Information

The residency space is for one artist - it's a 45 square meter organized as a working space (with printer, drawing material, and bricolage tools) and a mezzanine with bed and basic living facilities.

Technical Information

They provide a small library, printer, bricolage tools and a bicycle.
