Description
The goal at Fourwinds is to offer both established and emerging artists, as well as students, flexible studio facilities, creative dialogue, a refreshing amount of solitude, and a group that recognizes the value of their work. It provides a place for artists to work together separately, for whatever reason they have chosen to come.
Outcome
They do not ask artists to produce final results. Fourwinds holds open the possibility of an exhibition at FOURWINDS if, by the end of his or her stay, the artist feels he or she is adequately prepared.
Studio Information
The studio building, of approximately 600 m2, houses four large studio spaces, a communal kitchen and entry hall.
Accommodation Information
A studio apartment, attached to the main house, provides living space for one to three artists and there are two cabins near the swimming pool available as sleeping spaces. A working studios space is also included for those residing in either the apartment or the cabins and both these accommodations have access to the swimming pool during the season (April through October).
Technical Information
Fourwinds disposes of:
- (sculpture): clay, plaster, wax, and limestone from local quarries. There is a bronze foundry two hours away by car. Ceramic sculpture can be fired in their ceramic studio.
- (ceramics): one electric kiln
- (painting and drawing): basics provided
Location
Fourwinds is situated on a property of nearly 2 hectares ( 5 acres) surrounded by olive groves in the foothills of a small mountain range. There are no other houses nearby and the village is approximately 1.5 km away so our activities disturb no one. It is located at the centre of the triangle of Aix-en-Provence, Arles and Avignon, not far from St-Rémy-de Provence and Les Baux-de-Provence.
The hosts make every effort to make artists feel comfortable and « at home » during their stay here. There is always the possibility of shared lunches, tea & coffee breaks, and visits to local village festivals and market places.
