Ashkal Alwan
The Lebanese Association for Plastic Arts, Ashkal Alwan is a non-profit organization based in Beirut, Lebanon. Since its inception in 1994, the association has committed itself to the production, facilitation and circulation of artistic practices across a range of disciplines and media.
The artist-in-residency program is a platform for building dialogue and creating dynamic networks across diverse art communities. This program provides opportunities for emerging and established artists, cultural practitioners and researchers to conduct artistic and cultural research and production in Lebanon. Ashkal Alwan hosts residents in Beirut and also works with a network of partners to locate residencies for artists from Lebanon and the Arab world.
Ashkal Alwan offers 2 to 3 artists each year a 2- to 3-month research residency in Beirut.
Ashkal Alwan also runs the Home Workspace Program (HWP), an annual, 10-month long, interdisciplinary arts program at the post-graduate level. Launched by Ashkal Alwan in 2011, the program targets artists and cultural practitioners who wish to further their practice in a supportive environment in Beirut. Read more about this program here.
Workspace facilities (2000m² ) and a cafeteria are available.
