Art Print Residence is not able to offer grants for resident artists at this moment. They can, however, assist artists seeking grants in their country or institution, by providing an invitation letter or preparing a detailed budget.

The cost of lodging includes an apartment totally equipped: kitchen, fridge, patio, electricity, gas, water, cleaning service of towels and sheets and free internet connection. Workshop fees includes the necessary equipment to etch and print: three etching presses, specific machines, tools, inks, mordants, solvents and cleaning materials. (Plates and paper are not included).

Paid by artist:

Travel fares, accomodation, food, health insurance, workshop fees, plates and paper. Technical advise is optional.

Application guidelines:

They accept individual and group applications and there are online forms for both on their website.

Applicants should send:

  • A completed online application form (individual /group)

It is requested to clarify the materials needed (type, size and quantity of plates and papers) and the techniques to be developed.

  • Short description of the artist project / work planned during the residency period.
  • Visual documentation of recent work (5 .jpg images).
  • Letter/s of recommendation of professional institution, someone who knows applicant's work, printmaking instructor, etc. (optional)
  • Techniques to be used.
  • Supplies needed: kind/ number of plates, sizes, etc.

Art Print Residence staff will select high quality projects, priorizing those based in printmaking. They accept projects that should be possible to realize in their installations, using their facilities and expertise. They also consider artist's statement and previous work.

Description

Art Print Residence offers its professional printmaking workshop to visual artists who desire to develope their own project. Art Print Residence is specialized in intaglio printmaking and woodcut, so Master platemaker can give technical advice and personal assistance to the artists (if they need it).

Studio Information

The workshop is located on the ground floor of the hosts' home. In addition to the approximately 150 square meters of working space, they also have an outside working space of 80 m2. This garden area can be used when the weather is suitable. One of their studios main features is the natural light, with 12 linear meters of south-facing windows.

The shop is divided into several specific work areas: Artist’s workplace, Plate making area, Printing area, Paper handling area and Mechanical zone. They have a big size intaglio press so artists can work on large format with copper or wood plates up to a maximum size of 100x200cm.

Accommodation Information

The residence has a private apartment totally equipped available to the artists: bedrooms with double beds, bathroom, kitchen with fridge, saloon, patio and free internet connection. The host will clean towels and sheets once a week, to be environmentally friendly.

They can also accomodate artists of other disciplines like writers, drawers, illustrators...

Technical Information

The workshop's specific areas are: printing's zone, aquatint zone, acid baths (ferric chloride), photo-etching area, paper handling area and mechanical zone with a wide variety of saws, milling machines, guillotines, flexible shafts, drills, and a set of electrical tools. Artists are able to work on metal materials (copper, iron, …) as well as on plastic and wood. They have three motorized presses with bed sizes:

  • Gea Jalon 27,55x59,05 inches
  • Ribes 31,40x66,9 inches
  • Ribes 53,14x94,48 inches

Their Master platemaker can give technical advice and personal assistance if artists desire it (optional). Also they offer the possibility of printing artist's plates by the hand of their Master printer.

Location

Art Print Residence is located in Arenys de Munt, approximately 30 minutes from Barcelona and 45 from Girona by road. Arenys de Mar, the adjoining seaside town, is within walking distance and where you can catch local trains travel regulary to Barcelona or Girona. Arenys de Munt is in the Maresme region, which extends from the Barcelona coast up to the Costa Brava. This region is graced with beautiful beaches, excellent hiking and is rich with local culture.
