Since 1986 the Department of Culture and Education of the city of Salzburg has offered an artist exchange program. The city of Salzburg co-operates closely with public and private enterprises in Europe and the USA and has, with selected cities, developed a regular mutual artist exchange program. Applicants from other cities and countries can only be considered according to the availability during the requested year and provided that they arrange an exchange under the same terms and conditions for artists from Salzburg.
