For the BIPOC Residency and self-directed Personal Residencies, artists pay transportation to and from Mexico, local transportation, food, laundry, and entertainment. You can eat well for $50/week USD. Eating out is also affordable with meals costing $5 – 15 USD.

For self-directed Personal Residencies, there is no formal application. Book your live/work space after checking the availability.
For the BIPOC Residency, you need to apply through CAFÉ.

360 XOCHI QUETZAL is a year-round Artist & Writers Residency located on the Lake Chapala, Mexico. International artists, writers and musicians who would benefit from having uninterrupted time to devote to their creativity are encouraged to apply for a self-directed Personal Residency.

Studio Information

The private live/work spaces at the Hotel Villa QQ are geared toward writers and visual artists. Work tables and easels are available for visual artists, desks and free wi-fi for writers. The Mirador Suite and Carriage House at the Hotel Villa QQ can accommodate couples or collaborative groups.

Each live/work space at the Hotel Villa QQ has a private entrance, sitting area, bedroom, full bathroom and access to the pool, hot-tub and gardens. The residency also includes free wi-fi, all utilities, weekly maid service, (weekly laundry pickup is available for an additional charge) and a 22-page Residency Guidebook. All rooms have patios where residents can also work and relax.

Location

Chapala is located 25 minutes from an international airport and 45 minutes from Guadalajara, one of the largest cities in Mexico boasting abundant cultural resources: museums, galleries, theatre and artist supplies. The residency is at walking distance to a park with a running track, pool, tennis courts and walking trails. You are also 5 minutes from the malecon, a park-like promenade that runs along the lake for a mile. The lake is surrounded by hundreds of mountains and you will enjoy spectacular sunsets almost every night. The weather is sunny 300 days a year and temps average in the 70s. Other activities include hiking, dancing and thermal springs. Chapala and nearby Ajijic have dozens of cafes and galleries, art openings, and hundreds of artists to connect or study with. Everything you need is within walking distance and our bus service is frequent and inexpensive. This is a safe place to live and work and the house is secure.
