The Hamburg Ministry for Culture and Media is inviting applications for 8 three-month residencies in 2025 and 2026 in the Westwerk artists’ centre in Hamburg.
The residency is a residential and work grant that requires the artist to live and work at Westwerk and facilitates both work on an artistic project and networking with the Hamburg cultural scene. Westwerk is centrally located in inner-city Hamburg, in a relatively large complex of buildings on Fleetinsel that houses further studios, galleries and a small theatre.

Benefits:

  • Rent-free provision of the 68 m² residency flat (1 large room with separate simply furnished living/working area, kitchen and shared bathroom) with WiFi.
  • Additional expense allowance of €900 per month per artist in residence
  • Travel expenses for one return journey.
  • One-off subsidy of €500 per residency towards the costs of running and organising a final presentation
  • Grants are intended for one person.

Westwerk e.V. will be responsible for mentoring the respective artists in residence. Westwerk is an open artists’ centre with regular art and music events. Grant recipients must take out health and personal liability insurance at their own expense for the period of residence; residence permits/visas if necessary are also the responsibility of grant recipients.

The place and format of the final presentation will be agreed with Westwerk. Smaller exhibitions and media-based presentations of artistic work as part of a public event are also conceivable, as are lectures, presentations of work or discussions with artists in the bar room or possibly in the hall, and will be supported by Westwerk.
